Evangelicals and the Environment
A prominent group of Evangelical Christian leaders have founded the Evangelical Climate Initiative.
"Despite opposition from some of their colleagues, 86 evangelical Christian leaders have decided to back a major initiative to fight global warming, saying 'millions of people could die in this century because of climate change, most of them our poorest global neighbors.'
Among signers of the statement are the presidents of 39 evangelical colleges, leaders of aid groups and churches, like the Salvation Army, and pastors of megachurches, including Rick Warren, author of the best seller "The Purpose-Driven Life."

Fasting in Belize
On Sunday, December 5th, students and staff of CCSP Belize undertook a day of fasting and silence in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming journey home. After breaking the fast with the Lord's supper (and a wholesome Belizean feast) in the evening, the general feeling was that it was a well needed time of reflection and prayer (although it did prove to be hard to keep silent!). Bobby, a student on the program, said that for him it was a "profound" time, in that it gave him space to reflect on much of the learning he had undergone over the past semester. Another of the students, Missy, said: "I was dying at the end of the day!" - possibly from the lack of food, or the silence, or both! And George, one of the CCSP staff members, said that the fast was a "challenging time of simplicity, and being ok with it." Heading home often turns out to a significant challenge for CCSP students as they re-adjust to living outside of the tight-knit community experienced in Belize and fitting back into the North American cultural context.
