Tapa Making

The art of Tapa making has been passed down for many generations as a way to make clothing, bedding, curtains, etc. Now, there are only a few tapa making experts on the island-- as the art has slowly died over the years. The revitalization of the art is beginning to rise again thanks to rise in tourism and the realization that money can be earned from creating such beautiful pieces. This lovely lady has been coming for many years to show us the intricate and physically demanding procedure that goes into creating a piece of tapa.
