Safua Hotel Geology Tours
Every semester we get the opportunity to tramp around the island with local geological genius, Warren. Not exactly a local, Warren has lived all over the world and has decided to spend the past 23 years and possibly the rest of his life in Samoa teaching people about the geology of this magnificent island. Every semester students become overwhelmed with knowledge about lava fields and fresh water lenses mixed in with a little bit of cultural mythology. Warren is sure to throw in Samoan mythologies used to explain some of these geological phenomenons , but firmly states his belief that all of these stories are pure rubbish! Thanks for all your wisdom and insight Warren, we will continue to enjoy the knowledge you share and the stories you tell for years to come!
Tour 1: Lava Fields, Lava Church, and Virgin's Grave
Jaimie, Bekah, Co, and Laura on vast lava fields!
Tour #2: Blow Holes, Western Edge of the World, Sea Arches
We went to the western edge of the world to feel the "vibrations" sent out by the spirits leaving this world-- sad to report that no vibrations were felt. However, we can proudly say that we stood at the western most point in the world (on land of course)! Then we made our way to the blow holes, that although not at their peak, were quite amazing to watch...someone always gets soaked.
