Mangrove and Sea Grass Field Trip

Coral reef and the fishes that reside in them are not the only vital parts of the marine ecosystem. Mangroves and seagrass both provide important habitats for marine life and fulfill many important roles in protecting and sustaining the reef. The students were led by a local MPA officer through a mangrove forest to see the two different kinds of mangroves that Samoa has been working to preserve and expand. A snorkel through the seagrass followed our tramp through the mangroves and a nice lunch provided for us by a local family.
