Waitangi Day

For Waitangi day we headed over to a different area of the Banks Peninsula : Okains Bay and Akaroa. There we had the opportunity to experience a real Powhori and the signing of a conservation project to begin protecting and preserving some of this precious land we have come to love in the Banks Peninsula. Representatives from the government, Forest and Bird NZ, and various guests were there to speak and witness the signing of this new treaty.

As Part of the ceremony there was a traditional welcoming and a challenging-- where the men attempt to scare or intimidate the guests and challenge their intentions at the gate.
