Blowholes in Samoa

The islands of Samoa were created through the magnificent volcanic action that left lava fields and rocky, holy shores. During a week of touring with Safua Hotel's Warren Jopling, students saw the most impressive blowholes at this site where coconuts thrown into the hole were catapulted into the air with the stream of water. Stream Ecology

Students under the tutelage of Dr Heather Rhodes surveyed the effects of agriculture on a stream. The farm visited was a cattle, sheep, and deer operation and had varying levels of animal interaction along parts of the stream. Students spent time using clarity tubes, collecting and identifying invertebrates, pH, and many other tests.

Taranaki falls trail

We hiked to taranaki falls during orientation week in Tongariro National park. At the falls some people went swimming in the FREEZING COLD water... others were on the mountain skiing.

Orientation Week!

Orientation week was a roaring success. Students were collected at the Auckland Airport on Wednesday, August 31. We travelled to Whakamaru where we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, kayaking, volleyball, and getting to know each other. Soon we moved to Rotorua where we began the Stream Ecology course with Dr Heather Rhodes. It was a lot of tramping through the streams and collecting invertebrates. Finally, we travelled to Thames area where we completed Stream Ecology. After two weeks of travel, we arrived at Kodesh so glad to be home!
