Internship Week Comes to a Close
Last week many students were off doing internships with various organizations throughout Belize. Taylor and Jess worked hard for the Belize Botanical Gardens helping with promotion as well as toiling in the sun to expand their gardens. Steph contributed to the efforts at the Green Iguana Conservation Project in San Ignacio, becoming CCSP's resident expert on these endangered creatures. Amanda worked with both the Cornerstone Foundation doing HIV/AIDS awareness in Benque and working at The King's Children's Home near Belmopan. Kate and Nate read many journal articles and reviews, preparing themselves for their coming internship weeks doing research in the cloud forests of Costa Rica. We enjoyed many laid-back evenings at "The Nab"(as the students have lovingly dubbed campus) including movie-watching, swimming pool treks, and card games. Ellen enjoyed some vacation time with her family in Belize while Dave, Jen and Trish had many an adventure in Guatemala! Ryan had some vacation time in Mexico, while Justin and Katherine took a day off to explore the Mountain Pine Ridge further, working with Phil and Iris at the Nab for the rest of the week. We had a great time sharing the stories of our different adventures with each other around the campfire on Sunday night when we reunited at Nabitunich.
Currently, we are two days into marine ecology with Karen Steensma from Trinity Western. Tomorrow we head off to Calabash Caye for the remainder of the week to study the coral reef. We're all really looking forward to seeing the reef in person, many of us for the first time!
